About The Adopt-A-Unit Program
The Adopt-A-Unit program is very important to the families of Upward Bound House because they come into the program with a lack of financial resources. When a family’s unit is adopted, they are given a sense of relief knowing that those essential items are made available to them. The families can focus on saving their income in order to purchase the pertinent things geared toward sustaining permanent housing. The Adopt-A-Unit program allows the community, organizations, and others to help families directly by providing them with the basic necessities to stabilize and get back on their feet as they work towards permanent housing.
Adopt-A-Unit for “Family Place”
Family Place located in Santa Monica, consists of 21 one-bedroom apartments, and provides medium-term housing for families in transition to permanent housing. Each unit is one bedroom, with a kitchen, bathroom, and a small living room. The estimated costs to furnish the unit with the basics for a family of 4 are around $500. On average, families reside in the program for six to eight months. All items provided for Adopt-A-Unit must be new.
